Happy Memorial Day Weekend!!

The Greenhouse hours have changed a bit due to the Holiday!

We will be open Friday from 3pm-6pm to coincide with our Sausage special at the shop and Monday from 10am -2pm

On Saturday and Sunday the Farm stand will be available for self service at the end of the Greenhouse Driveway

Our hanging baskets of Red, White, and Blue Petunias would be a nice way to mark the holiday!

Our herbs and veggies are still available, although we are down to limited quantities of cucumbers and red leaf lettuces.

We have four varities of melons, Charentois and Sarah's Choice musk melons. Sarah's Choice was developed specifically for our area and should do very well. If you choose this variety please let us know how it does for you!  Also we have available Oh So Sweet and Ali Baba Watermelon. However, we do not recommend planting them until mid June.

Hi  again everyone

For the past few months we have been busily putting together a 16'x 40' Greenhouse that is being heated by our outdoor woodburner which heats our house and our hot water.  The burner uses no fossil fuels just wood from our farm land. Once the wood is burned we then put the ashes onto the gardens for added nourishment for the plants.  Since the Greenhouse is now heated we are looking to utilize this in several different fashions ~

1. using this for seedling starters for our gardens and seedlings to sell to our friends for their gardens.

2. to start seedlings for a second phase of planting cold weather crops.

3. to extend our growing season to have cold weather fresh greens and root crops.

The first phase of the greenhouse is underway by being able to offer our friends seedlings that will be available for sale. The Greenhouse will be open Saturdays from 10 am to 5pm & Sundays from 12pm to 5 pm. This will be for the Dates of May 12 & 13, May 19 & 20, May 26 & 27. Also Monday May 28th from 10am to 3pm.

Seedlings we have for sale are as follows:
(pricing will be determined as time gets closer to see what size they are at time of sale)

Slicing Tomatoes: Big Boy, Super Sonic, Brandywine, Early Girl, Beef Steak.
Cherry Tomatoes: Red Cherry, Patio, Sunsugar, Grape, Sweet 100
Paste Tomatoes: Roma
Peppers: Green, Golden, Mandarin, Bananna, Jalapeno
Herbs: Parsley, Sage, Rosemary, Thyme, Basil, Oregano
other vegetables: Broccoli, Celery, Cabbage, Eggplant, Chinese Cabbage, Pak Choy, Brussel Sprouts
Flowers: Sunflowers, Petunias, and possibly other flowers if they germinate well!!

If you do not see something that we are offering but would like to see if we can offer it for you please ask.  We can also reserve plants for you if you don't want to miss out!!  We would love to see you so please stop by to see our Greenhouse and how we are heating it!!  Pricing will be sent in a couple of weeks!  If any qiestions please call me on my cell at 781-8715 or email me at wberry@llfarm.net .

Here is your next Midget White Turkey Update!!!!

We went and checked on our eggs in the incubator to move them to the hatcher.

In the incubator the eggs turn very slowly so they do a complete side to side within 24 hours on a turner so that the embryo does not get stuck to the egg shell. Also this imitates the mother turning the eggs to make sure they are warm all around. Turkey eggs take 28 days to hatch. About 2-3 days prior to the 28th day the eggs are placed in the hatcher to help the babies get established in the upright position in the eggs. the hatcher does not turn to help the babies know which end is up.

While they are in the hatcher the babies establish themselves to come out. During this time they also start piping inside the shell to come out, the babies have a special point on the end of their beak which allow them to break out! Also just before they come out they ingest the rest of the yolk which is their food that can last for 4 days while the waiting for their siblings to arrive.

When we went to the incubator to move the eggs~ low and behold there were 3 baby turkeys that could not wait!
Either our calendar was off or we just don't know how to count! We quickly moved everyone else including the babies into the hatcher so the 3 could dry off and the rest come out. I am very pleased to say that the rest of the eggs had started to hatch too!!!

it looks as if we have had great success with these eggs and for them to have been shipped and this great of a hatch! Halaluieh!!!

We will be picking up the baby turkeys (Poults) on Saturday evening!!!!

Hope you enjoy the updates!!!
